Most privacy failures are not hacks. They are copies of customer data nobody needed, "anonymous" files that still identify people, records kept for years without a reason, and exports sent to the wrong address. Laws such as the GDPR set the rules, but someone has to turn them into tables, code and everyday processes. That someone is increasingly the analyst, the developer or the security specialist who handles the data, and this course gives you the practical skills to do it well. You learn to find personal data wherever it hides, keep only what a purpose needs, disguise it so it can still be used, protect it in systems, delete it on time, and handle requests, assessments and breaches with confidence.
Every lesson follows the same rhythm: a real situation, a precise explanation with a plain-words summary, a code demo you run in Google Colab, exercises with hints and answers, and the key points to remember. All the work happens on the customer data of one fictional business, the outdoor retailer Trailhead Outfitters: its customers, orders, support tickets, newsletter list and web analytics. The problems you meet are the ones real companies have, from a newsletter list with purchased addresses to support messages that mention customers' health.
The data is synthetic, so you can experiment freely, and every number printed in the lessons comes from actually running the code. Laws are explained at the level of their principles and rights, to help you ask the right questions and work well with legal colleagues, without pretending to be legal advice. Nothing needs installing, and no account or paid privacy tool is required.
Short lessons that move from the foundations of data protection, through the engineering techniques that reduce privacy risk and the protection of personal data in systems, to the everyday privacy operations of requests, assessments and breaches, followed by a guided project in which you carry out a privacy review of a company's customer data. You also get the fictional company's customer, order, support, newsletter and analytics data, its draft data inventory, retention schedule, privacy notice and data subject requests, a privacy impact assessment template, starter and solution notebooks with self-checks for the project, and a quiz drawn from a question bank at the end of every module.
This course is for data analysts, data engineers and developers who work with customer data, for security professionals who want to specialise in protecting it, and for privacy, compliance and IT staff who want the technical skills behind the policies. If you have ever been told "just remove the names" or "we'll keep it in case we need it", and suspected that was not the whole story, this course shows you what to do instead, with numbers you can defend. It is the second step of the Cybersecurity path and builds directly on Cybersecurity Fundamentals. Enroll now and learn to make personal data safe without making it useless.
SkillEnsure certificates reflect hands-on practice and real-world skills, not just watching videos or reaching the end of a course.
Learn moreSince I enjoy learning by reading - it was a great experience for me. One of the memorable features was structured quiz after every module with timely feedback to test my knowledge.
SkillEnsure helps link up what someone can actually do with formal recognition. That gap has always been a problem, and this finally takes care of it.
SkillEnsure helped me transform years of learning and practical experience into a certification that I can proudly share as evidence of my professional competency.
I’ve worked in my field for years, but never had a structured way to prove my skills. They gave me a credible, verifiable certification that reflects my real ability.
